| 1. Subject 2. Form: pure shape, quality of light 1. Composition 2. Density 3. Contrast 3. Emotive Robert Frank: matching medium + look with emotive aspect
- Design of subject should inform design of photography
- Each image takes about 1-5 hours on the field (set up + take photograph)
- Every plane, surface, edge defined [by light]
- Dark foreground, light background = 3d look
- We "see in snapshots"
- Make sure objects look as perceived in mind (remember camera height / perspective)
- Both Overall + informative detail shots
- Use people for scale
- Appearance of technology + people can remove "timelessness" or date a photograph
- Integrating people: have a concept of what people would do / dress like in environment
- Objects are for pulling eye through image (follow objects; see where your eyes go)
